Overnight frost and sub-zero temperatures claim Ludlow
This afternoon's meeting at Ludlow has been cancelled due to frost with temperatures dropping to -4C overnight.
A cloudy morning and doubts over whether temperatures would rise sufficently prior to racing forced clerk of the course Simon Sherwood to call off the fixture.
Sherwood said on Monday morning: "We had a frost yesterday which just about came out of the ground but we were concerned about the second frost last night.
"It reached -4C overnight and there is plenty of cloud cover this morning. It's not going to reach above freezing until midday so the frost just isn't going to come out of the ground in time."
There are now just two meetings today with the official going soft, good to soft in places at Ayr, which starts at 12.10, with covers deployed at the track and standard on the all-weather at Lingfield, where racing begins at 11.50.
