Sam Thomas will hope to pick up where he left off last season when three of his chasers bid for more big-race success at Ascot on Saturday, but will need a positive result from Our Power to keep Coral Gold Cup aspirations in tact.

The trainer had 20 winners last season, six fewer than the previous campaign, but secured a career-best £490,707 in earnings thanks to victory in the Welsh Grand National and a breakthrough Grade 2 win.

He is eyeing more big staying handicaps with Our Power, who begins his season in the Bateaux London Gold Cup Handicap Chase (3.15) after finishing fifth in the Ultima at the Cheltenham Festival in March.
