Orange gets green light for Gold Cup after impressing in final spin
The irrigation on the watered gallop is all the wet stuff the Fitzroy House team want to see between now and Thursday, when their stable star will tackle the Gold Cup at Royal Ascot. Owner Bill Gredley, perched on his shooting stick, watched as the six-year-old thundered past over a mile in the hands of Bell's head lad Tyrone Lloyd-Jones.
Lanigan had members of Middleham Park Racing in tow as they have a share in this son of Archipenko, a winner last month at Chelmsford. Stevie Donohoe gave the crowd what they wanted when moving the three-year-old to the fore at the end of a seven-furlong workout, and he is set to make the short trip to the July course for a handicap on Friday.
The son of Famous Name, who finished runner-up on his seasonal reappearance at Sandown last month, impressed work watchers in his latest spin on the Al Bahathri on Friday morning. The three-year-old is being aimed at the Group 3 Jersey Stakes at Royal Ascot on Wednesday.
Varian has some fair chances at Royal Ascot next week and this recent York Listed winner should not be discounted in a hot looking Coronation Stakes judging by the way she travelled for Andrea Atzeni on the watered gallop. The daughter of Invincible Spirit could do with a shower before next Friday to help her chances.
The Tin Man
Tom Queally was busier than ever when riding on both sides of the town, including on this Group 1 Diamond Jubilee hopeful. Last year's British Champions Sprint winner was watched by a big crowd of visiting Australians in his work on the Limekilns as he prepares for the race won by Australian legend Black Caviar in 2012.
