It's that time of year when one phrase becomes the most overused cliche in racing: "The jumps season is cranking up another gear."

Which of course doesn't say much for the gear in which the season was spluttering along through the summer, but nonetheless there's little doubt that this is a golden period for jumps fans.

Last weekend, we were treated to the returns of horses like Pied Piper, Hitman and Knight Salute, already established stars with the promise of so much more to come through the winter. Then at Wetherby on Saturday, we get the latest battle between two genuine potential superstars in Ahoy Senor and Bravemansgame.
