Why there is no quick fix when it comes to reducing overall number of fixtures

As much as it will pain some to hear it, there are no quick fixes for the BHA when it comes to the fixture list.

There will be many disappointed the total number of meetings next year has only been reduced by two but the BHA has limited scope to wield the axe when racecourses own around 85 per cent of fixtures.

And with racecourses having asked for guarantees over those rights in the discussions which finally led to Lord Allen taking over as BHA chair it is unlikely the governing body will have a huge amount more freedom in the short term.
