Why Brexit could be a far bigger headache for racing than many have realised

As Brexit trade talks between the United Kingdom and the European Union go down to the wire, the messages from British racing's leaders about the preparations the sport should be making for when the transition period ends on December 31 are ramping up.

One problem for the Thoroughbred Industries Brexit Steering Group is that with so little clarity on what the situation will be in less than a month's time, the guidance it can give to the industry has to come with significant caveats.

Nevertheless, the message to racing's participants has been that they need to familiarise themselves with the "likely new arrangements" for the movement of horses and people after January 1.
