There was widespread relief when owners were finally permitted to return to British racecourses in meaningful numbers and thankfully from Monday they will also be able to access the parade ring. It is a logical step in restoring the on-track experience for this key sector of the racing industry.

However, having had to tolerate a watered-down version of the ownership experience for months, it is surely time for the sport to be going all out now to make owners' racedays as enjoyable as possible – and for as many of them as possible.

Last week's investigation by Peter Scargill into the state of ownership in Britain highlighted the growing importance of syndicates as a means of safeguarding the industry in the future, yet there has been frustration about the allocation of owners' badges for these groups for some time.
