A year ago, the Randox Health Grand National meeting at Aintree came and went without a single Irish-trained victory for the first time since 2010.

Cause Of Causes finished second to One For Arthur in the Grand National and there were other honourable turns in defeat, but the feast in the Cotswolds was followed by a famine on Merseyside.

The raiders have played a massive part in reinvigorating the magic of the Grand National carnival over the past 20 years, so hopefully there won’t be another whitewash next week.
