After seven winners on one day, what's there to raise an eyebrow about? Well, after last Saturday's heroics, trainer Roger Varian was still left with one small gripe.

Admittedly, it was hardly the trainer throwing his toys out of the pram, rather a considered opinion that Saturday's Group 1 Middle Park Stakes is occupying the wrong spot in the racing calendar.

Varian had just won the Group 2 Mill Reef Stakes over six furlongs with exciting juvenile Sakheer, the sixth of seven winners for the trainer on the day, yet by running at Newbury he had effectively forfeited Sakheer's chance of going for a Group 1 in Britain over the same trip this season.
