No surprise if Perfect Power went on to prove the pundits all wrong

It has been a while since the 2,000 Guineas trials had such a bearing on the real thing at Newmarket on Saturday week.

The consensus was that the season’s opening Classic is Native Trail’s to lose after his power-packed return in the Craven Stakes. That is almost certainly the way of it, yet those looking beyond the raw visuals were too harsh on Perfect Power’s prospects of upsetting the red-hot favourite.

Last year’s Middle Park winner is seen by many as unlikely to thrive when stepped up to a mile for the first time. And that despite Perfect Power’s commanding final furlong at the end of a truly-run Greenham Stakes over seven furlongs.
