Time, as Sky Sports Racing's Robert Cooper pointed out to me at Chepstow on Tuesday, can be a great healer, but two weeks may not have been long enough for Paul and Oliver Cole.

Whenever a horse goes down by a head a feeling that he or she could or should have won is always likely and that seemed to be the case when I caught up with the pair at Newbury on Saturday, 14 days after stable star Royal Scotsman was narrowly denied by Chaldean in the Dewhurst at Newmarket.

Perhaps their anguish was felt more keenly as victory would have meant a first top-flight triumph for the operation since 2003 when Mr Dinos struck for Cole snr in the Gold Cup at Royal Ascot.
