Rachael Blackmore is an inspiration, nothing truer can be said than that, but her Grand National success on Minella Times should extend far beyond encouraging young women. She could stimulate a new wave of ownership in the middle to lower tiers.

Minella Times was a relatively cheap purchase at €31,000 as a foal, while Irish Grand National hero Freewheelin Dylan could have been bought for €13,000 as a store.

If that is not enough to prove that the dream is alive in jump racing for the small man and woman, the good news is there are stacks of other examples. This was the season of the bargain buy.
