In the last few months there has been a perceptible change in the atmosphere surrounding the betting industry, which is now looking like becoming a storm.

In the space of a few days the competition watchdog has announced an inquiry into online operators' terms and conditions due to concerns they break consumer law, while the government has at last launched its much-heralded review of gaming machines and gambling advertising.

'At last' seemed to be the sentiment behind sport's minister Tracey Crouch's tweet on Monday when she said she was pleased to be "finally" launching the review.
