Again we have been treated to a wonderful Royal Ascot, with some outstanding moments.

However, the meeting seems to be kneeling to the gods of Mammon in a most blatant and inelegant way.

When the place was refurbished we were assured there would never be commercial sponsorship at the royal meeting, but there was a footnote that “a discreet presence would be allowed for certain organisations”. The more cynical among us immediately saw a red light but hoped we were wrong.
