Staying a step ahead in National weights game reveals two likely Aintree sorts

The Grand National weights are out next week. The unveiling offers an enticing first look at the race, causing prices to fluctuate and favourites to emerge, but there is still a chance to get ahead of the crowd right now.

This opportunity comes at the same time each year for anyone willing to put in a bit of work between the release of the entries and the publication of the weights. The aim of the game is to pre-empt the handicapper.

In truth, I am a little surprised about the awe and wonder that follows the unveiling because it is not difficult to predict the weights. I have been doing this for years and my list is never far off the published figures.
