At the time of writing, Sizing John is as big as 100-30 to record a fifth Grade 1 success on the spin in the race formerly known as the Lexus Chase.

Blow me down. This column doesn’t make a habit of analysing betting markets but it’s nearly Christmas so we’ll make an exception. Spread the festive cheer and all that.

A successful bet at 100-30 equates to a 333 per cent return on investment. That’s some offering about the reigning Gold Cup hero, who on the balance of form over the past three years could really only be considered inferior to Douvan – and even then you could argue they were clashing at Douvan’s optimum trip rather than Sizing John’s.
