The statistics of the 2016-17 Irish jumps season revealed a heavily-skewed picture. No trainer outside the top six bettered the 20 winners achieved by Shark Hanlon, placed 11th on the earnings list.

Dominance of the big guns is a recurring theme, yet chances are strong that several trainers will break the 20-barrier this season.

A bumper win for debutante Mary B at Gowran Park last Saturday brought Charles Byrnes to the 18-winner mark, one ahead of Alan Fleming and Peter Fahey, with Denis Hogan also in shouting-distance after recording his 16th winner of the season at Fairyhouse last week.
