Report's approach to betting on racing is not warranted

The recent report Not a Game – a call for effective protection from the harms of gambling by the Centre for Social Justice as discussed in Bill Barber’s column (May 19) – highlights some disturbing examples of where gambling has gone unchecked.

However, the report fails to mention that for millions of people in Britain, gambling and especially betting on racing is a pleasurable experience which they enjoy at their leisure.

Spending money on betting is a hobby many enjoy and is no different to the outlays made on fishing, golf, cycling, going to the theatre or any other pastime.
