Rebecca Menzies is breaking barriers - but racing needs many more to follow her
Amid the flurry of last weekend's racing and the upcoming crescendo of the Cheltenham Festival, Rebecca Menzies claimed her first Listed jumps success with the novice hurdler Fonzerelli at Doncaster last Saturday. In doing so, she rocketed past her best season's tally and quickly followed it up with win number 28 the next day at Sedgefield.
In the week when we celebrated International Women's Day it was particularly welcome to spot a female trainer climbing the ranks in British racing. She now sits at 44th in the jumps trainers' championship and still has room to climb with just under two months of the season to go.
However, Menzies seems to be the exception rather than the rule and a delve into the statshighlights the struggle many women face in establishing themselves among the top echelon of trainers.
