Racing isn't part of concussion debate - and it deserves huge credit for that

Riding horses puts the body, and particularly the head, through things it was never designed for. Falling off horses travelling at 35mph, often with other horses bearing down on you, comes with obvious and enormous health risks.

Yet a week after that has seen concussion and brain injuries become a huge talking point, racing has not been part of the conversation –which is to its credit.

Rugby World Cup winner Steve Thompson and seven other former internationals last week announced a legal claim against the professional authorities which has shaken rugby, and sport in general, to its very core.
