Racing has a problem with young people - and for the sport to prosper it needs to be confronted on Friday nights and beyond
Arc's new series is a welcome intervention and may prove more useful than the Racing League

With a few notable exceptions, such as a chancellor ordering action that could devastate a great British industry, there is little wrong with trying something different and seeing what happens. For racing, a something that could bring more young people to the sport is surely worth trying.
It is equally true that while success breeds success, failure does not necessarily beget failure. Having staged the Racing League since its inception, Arena Racing Company has decided to pass the baton to others, although whether any others will wish to receive it remains to be seen. What we do know is Arc has a new initiative, Friday Night Live. It may or may not work, but the motivations behind it are laudable.
Among the Racing League's problems was the impossibly high bar it set itself.
