As 2016 wound to a close, Rachael Blackmore embarked on a little crusade to right what she perceived to be an inherent prejudice stacked against her in the Cheltenham Festival programme.

And, no, it wasn’t that the four-day extravaganza was missing a ladies’ race. Blackmore has never viewed her gender as a barrier to success, but she and others lobbying on her behalf were adamant she was being discriminated against.

The bias against which she was campaigning was the age limit of 25 for riders in the Martin Pipe Conditional Jockeys’ Race.
