Racecourses remain a brilliant family day out - but one flaw lets them down

What I am going to outline to you isn’t new, nor is it revelatory, stunning or profound. However, it can sometimes escape your attention when you get mired down in the everyday of the industry.

Going racing is a superb day out. It’s obvious, isn’t it, but it is properly good fun to spend a day at the races with your family or friends, particularly now the weather is getting steadily more pleasant.

I indulged in an afternoon at the Craven meeting in Newmarket last week (the best fixture of the year, don’t try to pretend otherwise) with my wife and our four-year-old daughter, who remained entertained for several hours – an achievement and a delight in and of itself.
