Racecourses must wage war on cocaine to prevent summer of woe

There was a time, and it was not long ago, when many in racing approached the Grand National with a sense of fear and foreboding. The same will be true as we approach this weekend's showpiece fixture at Newbury.

Action was needed to make the Grand National safer. Action was taken and now our greatest race is in a healthy state. Action is now needed to make certain racecourses on certain days safer places. A major problem has arisen and that problem must be tackled without delay.

Anyone who has seen social media footage of the violence that erupted at Goodwood and Ascot on the last two Saturdays will have been horrified.
