Pressure mounting for team Winx as wondermare continues on her merry way
She did it again on Saturday. As Australia awoke to the ball-tampering cricket scandal in South Africa, connections of Winx collapsed in an emotional heap of their own after the wondermare chalked up another record when winning the George Ryder Stakes at Rosehill.
It was Winx’s 17th Group 1 triumph, eclipsing the mark established by US legend John Henry, and her 24th victory on the bounce. It should have been the cue for further celebrations but the overwhelming feeling in her camp was one of immense relief. Every sinew had been strained, every nerve stretched taught.
Winx has reached such exalted heights that those close to her are overcome by vertigo every time they look down. What should be a journey of spectacular vistas is becoming a fraught experience in the finest Hitchcock tradition. Danger lurks at every turn.
