Precedent and good sense should protect Stewards' Cup from loss of identity
Before we go any further, let it be clear the big race won by Khaadem at Goodwood on Saturday was the Unibet Stewards' Cup. The sponsor was definitely Unibet. The race sponsored was definitely the Stewards' Cup.
On Saturday morning an old story was reignited when Ed Nicholson, head of racing communications and sponsorship for Unibet and 32Red, posted a tweet that diverted some attention away from the Stewards' Cup and on to its sponsorship.
Nicholson wrote: "Interested in analysing media today & tomorrow regarding mentions of @unibet Stewards Cup as opposed to just Stewards Cup. There’s a commercial question as to whether we change race title to Unibet Cup for next year. All based on hard facts and analysis of this year."
