Positive steroid test is a positive result, but more to do in anti-doping battle

On Tuesday we learned Turbine had become the first horse whom the Irish Horseracing Regulatory Board had identified as having tested positive for anabolic steroids.

The natural reaction would be to conclude that is a regrettable situation. Au contraire; it is a hugely positive, if you’ll pardon the pun, development.

Why? Because now we know we have a testing system in Ireland that is fit for purpose, which was something we had no cause to be confident in for a long time.
