There was understandably a significant amount of congratulating going on within racing circles after Saturday's confirmation from culture secretary Oliver Dowden that our sport could return after 75 days of coronavirus-enforced stoppage.

A genuine outpouring of enthusiasm welled up and a colleague of mine, who had been helping to keep the show on the road while the paper went into hibernation, confessed to being unexpectedly and surprisingly emotional by the all-clear finally being given.

For while Timeform founder and legendary punter Phil Bull may have labelled racing as "the great triviality", its imminent return means a great deal to a great many people for a great many reasons.
