There are a multitude of inquiries and reviews into gambling under way, and one of those with the most potential to be influential resumed this week following a break.

The House of Lords select committee, which is examining the 'social and economic impact of the gambling industry', met on Tuesday when among those giving evidence were representatives of racing and members of the gambling industry most closely associated with the sport.

There were times when the questions from the committee members to BHA chief executive Nick Rust, racecourse bookmaker Robin Grossmith, Britbet managing director Nigel Roddis and UK Tote Group chief executive Alex Frost veered away from their natural areas of expertise.
