Overhyped Jonbon is the most ridiculous price I've seen in a long, long time
It's official: the juice and all the pips have been squeezed out of the ante-post game. How else can you explain Jonbon being quoted at 7-4 to win the Sporting Life Arkle by BetVictor and William Hill? That is not a bad price, it's an awful one.
According to Racing Post Ratings, Jonbon's Warwick win this week was the third best chasing debut of the modern era. Only Galopin Des Champs's 22-length victory at Leopardstown last Christmas and Altior's 63-length hammering of Black Corton at Kempton in 2016 were better. I disagree with that too. It wasn't that good.
Is Jonbon really 5lb better than Sprinter Sacre was at the same stage? Or 6lb superior to his big brother Douvan? Or 18lb better than Denman? I think we all need to take a deep breath and relax for a minute.
