There was a collective 'ooohh' in the press room at Gowran Park on Saturday, when those keeping an eye on the action at Navan winced as Davy Russell asked long odds-on favourite Dartington for a big one at the last.

It could have gone either way. Dartington seemingly had the race at his mercy coming down to the hurdle yet, when all he needed to do was pop that flight, Russell sent him at it.

Dartington answered the rider’s call in getting from A to B, and all's well that ends well, but it showed the mindset of Russell on the eve of the Cheltenham Festival.
