Not as mad as it sounds! The merit in Friday switch for Dublin Racing Festival
Having begun his tenure by keeping a relatively low profile at Leopardstown’s most illustrious winter festival, the track’s new chief executive Tim Husbands certainly made a splash in the aftermath.
The Dublin Racing Festival came of age last weekend so Husbands could simply have basked in the glow of being at the helm to reap the benefits of seeds sown during the previous regime. As a former boss of the Titanic centre in Belfast, the temptation is to conjure a nautical analogy.
Instead, it might be more appropriate to paraphrase Napoleon’s old gem that he’d rather have a lucky general than a good one. Time will tell if Husbands is more lucky than good, but a CV that includes credit for making Titanic Belfast such a successful venture would suggest he knows how to get things done.
