About three-quarters of an hour after One For Arthur had scored the greatest Scots win since Bannockburn, Lucinda Russell walked into Aintree's Alan Lee media centre to be greeted by warm applause.

"Well that's the best bit of all!" she exclaimed in delight, and she was still going on about the reception the press had given her the next day when half of Kinross turned up in the yard.

Cue my esteemed colleague Marcus Townend of the Daily Mail who said: "Actually Lucinda they do the same for every trainer who wins the National." You can always trust a Yorkshireman to poop the party!
