Mullins and his team had priorities right on big-race super Sunday
These past few Sundays have produced terrific racing in Ireland. We have been treated to Gordon Elliott's six-winner haul at Navan, a day of three Grade 1 races at Fairyhouse and, most recently, a strikingly successful day for Willie Mullins at Cork and Punchestown.
It was an excellent day for the two top jockeys associated with the stable. Ruby Walsh partnered three of the stable's four winners at Punchestown, and Paul Townend had two for the champion trainer among a four-timer at Cork.
There was plenty of chat about Walsh's presence at Punchestown rather than at Cork. This was partially fuelled by Matt Chapman, who tweeted earlier in the week how it was "ridiculous" to say Walsh had a dilemma in regard to Douvan and Djakadam. "Only a nutter wouldn't ride the former," he exclaimed.
