While trying to conceal my third chin for a selfie with Tiger Roll, I couldn't help but wonder – in a parallel universe where Martin Greenwood and Michael O'Leary saw eye to eye – how the most famous horse of the current era might alternatively have been spending last Tuesday morning.

Certainly not chilling in a field along with Coral Cup winner Commander Of Fleet, that's for sure.

Gordon Elliott would have been putting the finishing touches to the most eagerly anticipated epilogue in the history of the sport. And, if the brightest brains in the industry are to be believed, a glorious swansong would not have been beyond the bounds of possibility either.
