Mac was Marmite but he'd always look out for you

I was very sorry to hear of John McCririck's passing. The first time I worked with him at Lingfield as a broadcast assistant for At The Races, I was a little concerned as he had a bit of a reputation.

However, he went out of his way to be nice, asking Matt Chapman, who was the main presenter that day, if I could go home before the last as I'd done a good job. He didn't have to do that.

John's politics weren't for everyone and he was a bit of a Marmite character, but he was always good to me.
