Potentially difficult days are looming for the heads of Irish racing administration.

The Irish Horseracing Regulatory Board (IHRB) faces a test of its regulatory and disciplinary mettle, as its appeals & referrals committee adjudicates on a long-running case involving trainer Ronan McNally. Whatever the outcome, the nuts-and-bolts conduct of this investigation will merit forensic scrutiny.

I understand that a massive volume of evidence has been presented; how this case has been prosecuted will refect on the IHRB's fitness for purpose, which has already been called into question in recent times on account of perceived weaknesses in its drug-testing regimes.
