Kieran Shoemark will have to get used to spooning out the ice-cream - here's the massively underappreciated rider who should be head chef
Our deputy Ireland editor has his say on the Gosden jockey saga

Kieran Shoemark has been sacked by the Gosdens. Well, as good as. It's a bit like being the head chef in a fancy restaurant only for the proprietor to tell you he doesn't want you to cook any more, just spoon ice-cream from a tub into a bowl. You still have a job, mate. Take it or leave it.
Shoemark will have to take it, because being in the Clarehaven kitchen is better than not being there, so he will keep spooning the ice-cream out of the tub in the hope that someday down the line he might make a sundae so tasty it leads to having a wok in his hand again. You never know.
Any criticism of John Gosden here is wrong. This is not a knee-jerk reaction to claiming a silver medal in the 2,000 Guineas with Field Of Gold. He has been patient with Shoemark, allowing him to grow into the role as his number one jockey, but the blooming process hasn't gone the way he had hoped.
