Kempton is an important reason why the King George will again serve up a classic

There are any number of ingredients that make this season's 32Red King George VI Chase thrillingly special. One of them is the place where the race will be run.

Kempton is far from the loveliest track in Britain, the facilities are perfectly fine without being spectacular and the sense of soul some courses possess is plainly lacking. All that is true. So, too, is the fact Kempton is the perfect venue to stage the staying chase second in prestige only to the Gold Cup. We shall see that again on Wednesday.

For the Gold Cup to provide a unique test, the King George needs to do exactly the same. Thanks to having Kempton as its home, racing's Christmas classic can do exactly that.
