Jumps prize-money at Newcastle far too low

It seems almost beyond belief just how poor the prize-money return from jump racing is to owners when compared with even all-weather racing, starkly highlighted by the situation at Arena Racing Company’s Newcastle track.

When it pulled up one of the best turf courses in Britain to put down a Tapeta surface there was much said by the course executive that good prize- money would be provided for this new venture, and lo and behold it certainly was.

However, what about Newcastle’s core winter jumps programme? Has the provision of prize-money – already diabolical in some cases – improved for this programme? Consider the following:
