Iwilldoit triumph proof that shared ownership offers hope for challenging year

Christmas presents can often be a bit hit and miss – anybody who forced a smile opening their third pair of socks can attest to that. But sometimes you hit the jackpot when giving or receiving gifts and I have never seen anyone as excited as my brother-in-law when he found out we had bought him a small share in his first racehorse.

The horse in question, Huelgoat, runs in the colours of the Owners Group and was last seen in a maiden hurdle, but within minutes of opening his welcome pack my brother-in-law had mapped out an ambitious campaign for him, working back from the Gold Cup.

Shortly after telling everybody who would listen he was a racehorse owner, he then discussed his intention to get Paul Nicholls and his stable jockey Harry Cobden on a call to discuss riding instructions.
