It may not seem like it in the febrile atmosphere leading up to the Cheltenham Festival but, with apologies to all-weather aficionados, the Flat will soon be bursting into life.

The Dubai World Cup is a little over a fortnight away and the Lincoln a week after that, while various racecourses are unveiling initiatives and prize-money increases for the coming season.

Horse Racing Ireland joined that number this week with the announcement that the winner of Japan's Osaka Hai in April will gain guaranteed entry for September's Qipco Irish Champion Stakes at Leopardstown.
