I have faith in Christophe Soumillon's judgement - even if it seems as though most other observers don't
Julian Muscat on the respective merits of two outstanding Ballydoyle fillies

It’s not often bookmakers stand diametrically opposed to the view of one of Europe’s foremost jockeys, a man entrusted to handle Ballydoyle’s bluebloods in the enforced absence of Ryan Moore.
So whose side are you on? Do you align yourself with the layers, who quote Precise as favourite for the 1,000 Guineas after her runaway victory in last week’s Fillies’ Mile? Or are you with Precise’s jockey Christophe Soumillon, who says he prefers the Classic claims of Diamond Necklace, the filly he rode to win the Marcel Boussac five days earlier?
As things stand, Precise is a 4-1 chance, with Diamond Necklace available at twice that price, so it would seem Soumillon’s opinion does not count for much. The feel he got from both fillies will have been on his fingertips when he was asked to assess them last week, yet when three of this publication’s finest were asked the same question, they all plumped for Precise.
