How can the 2018 Derby hero Masar be so overlooked?

As breeders plan their matings I am struck yet again by the bias against staying stallions.

We are lucky in Newmarket to have available to us none other than the Derby winner of 2018, Masar. Rather remarkably, but rather frighteningly, he is standing for a relatively affordable price of £15,000.

Thirty years ago a Group-winning two-year-old like Masar who went on to win the Craven Stakes by nine lengths and then the Derby, would have stood for at least double that. He is not only good-looking but athletic; even better, he is inbred 3x4 to the remarkable Urban Sea, which must give him every chance.
