After plenty of ups and downs, it was great to end 2018 with a second Grade 1 winner of the year when Quel Destin landed Chepstow’s Finale Junior Hurdle on Thursday.

It was a pleasure to be asked to ride him by Paul Nicholls and there was plenty of confidence in his chance even though he was taking on an odds-on favourite in Adjali.

I watched all his videos beforehand and was impressed, but you don’t get the full picture until you have ridden a horse on the racecourse.
