All the attention surrounding the publication of the Gambling Commission's advice to ministers for the government's gambling review centred on FOBT stakes – understandably so given the controversy surrounding the machines.

However, other areas of the industry have not escaped scrutiny and the online sector will have found plenty to concern it in the commission's findings.

A summary of the regulator's review of online gambling was included in its advice to government and included the ominous statement that "progress by the online industry to minimise harm has been significantly slower than we expected and required".
