Flintshire now runs on medication but Fabre remains opposed
On Friday the eyes of the world will focus on Rio as the Olympic curtain once again rises.
More so than ever before the countdown to the Games has been dominated by talk of drugs due to the appalling Russian doping scandal. That is sad and regrettable. Also sad and regrettable is the fact popular and durable middle-distance star Flintshire was racing on drugs when winning for his new trainer Chad Brown at Saratoga on Saturday.
By now we know Flintshire well. His consistency at the highest level over an unusually long career has been remarkable. He continues to race with an abundance of zest and brilliance that makes him a joy to watch, as was evident at Saratoga, where he overcame trouble in running to win the Grade 2 Bowling Green Stakes on the bridle.
