Five priorities for racing in 2023 - including my solution to low sun nonsense
January is a wretched month, partly because you are supposed to make stupid resolutions and try to stick to them for the rest of the year. I have the willpower of a mouse who spots cheese on a trap so, instead of making my own, here are some new year's resolutions for racing to try.
Low sun solution is glaringly obvious
When the lousy low-lying sun disappeared at Leopardstown over Christmas, what did we do? Run a bloody bumper. All you could do was laugh.
A third of the jump races at Leopardstown's Christmas festival were affected by low sun with 16 obstacles omitted in eight different races. It spoiled a lot of the races for me as I'm sure it did for you. The Matheson Hurdle was the most infuriating of all, though.
