John Gosden's training feat should not be underestimated. Enable, a three-year-old filly trained in Britain, has won the Arc, her seventh victory from eight appearances in a gruelling season and her fifth Group 1. She must be a fabulous thoroughbred to work with.

But if you take the best middle-distance three-year-old filly in the world and hand her a 10lb advantage over the older horses there will almost invariably be only one result, as long as she turns up in condition to do herself justice.

Is she any better than the older horses Cloth Of Stars, Ulysses, or Order Of St George, the second, third and fourth, in absolute terms? Well no, all three were giving her 10lb and ran mighty races.
