Curragh fears borne out as lack of sectional data rears its head once again

By now the critical assessment of last weekend’s Irish Derby festival has been well worn. My own view on the manner in which regular racegoers are being catered for at a facility that has had €36 million of public money ploughed into it is well established, and Saturday’s shortcomings did nothing to disprove the theory that those in the cheap seats (figuratively speaking) are not being adequately catered for.

If anything, what unfolded on Derby day illustrated starkly the Upstairs Downstairs divide that was highlighted in this column in the wake of Irish Guineas weekend.

Derek McGrath, the Curragh’s chief executive, has been at pains to stress that customer experience was crucial among the new entity’s priorities.
